Friday January 22- Key West Florida. Rain and strong winds pounded most of the southeast, but 51 teams came out to the captains meeting at Stock island marina village. They were told by tournament director Lee Murray there would not be any fishing on Saturday due to the inclement forecast. On Saturday some buoys in the area reported 16 foot waves at 10 second intervals, the directors call to cancel fishing was right and teams enjoyed a day off to explore paradise. Sunday-the winds and rain subsided enough for teams to get on the water. As teams came to the scale they gave reports of "sporty conditions" and "murky water". Finding a good King in those conditions proved very challenging as the SKA team watched several teams return empty handed. The big fish of the tournament, a 40.37 was caught by Miller Tyme. Under Armour Fishing Team (powered by Mercury) came in second by about half a pound with a 39.81. Topping the SKA small boat class was Lost Boys Fishing Team (powered by Mercury) with a 33.52. Next in the small boat class was Bada Bing (powered by Mercury) with an 11.89. Thanks to all the anglers who came out and the sponsors who supported the event. It was a great kick off to the 2016 SKA season and we look forward to coming back to Stock Island Marina very soon!
