For most, the ferocity of king mackerel fishing occurs when a big smoker makes its move and lights up one of the reels. However, if you get to know one of the top kingfish baits, you’ll see that big attitude often comes in small packages.
Specifically, we’re talking about ribbonfish. Marine biologists call them Atlantic cutlassfish; some anglers may use the term “silver eel.” Day in and day out, though, the ribbonfish has a firm position in kingfish discussions all along the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf of Mexico.
Reason: King love ‘em; and anything a kingfish loves will interest kingfish anglers.
