RECAP FROM THE RUMBLE IN JUNGLE:
McMullan's Land 40.42 Pound Kingfish To Take First Place
By Bob Flocken

Brant and Barrett McMullan came to the HarbourGate Resort and Marina dock with a 40.42 pound kingfish to take home the $10,000 first place award as well as the $5,000 bonus that went to a non-pro boat catching the biggest fish at the Little River Inlet Saltwater Fishing Club’s 6th annual “Rumble in the Jungle” King Mackerel Tournament held in Little River, South Carolina. The Ocean Isle Fishing Center Team caught their fish at eleven o’clock in the morning while fishing in an area off of Morehead City.

The other forty pound fish that came to the scales was caught on the Outcast II, a 23’ Suzuki powered McKee Craft captained by John Hewlett. They caught their 40.17 pound king around 3:10 in the afternoon.

After catching a great fish to win the Savannah Kingfish Classic a couple weeks prior to this tournament, Dean Spatholt, Dennis Watson and Russell Spatholt landed a 39.92 pound smoker to finish in third place in the Rumble. Russell hooked their fish about 10:00 am.

Fourth place went to Stacy Wester’s Big Bad Wolf. Stacy, fishing with Field Hucks and Clark Truluck, decided to run south where a couple of the bigger fish caught the prior day during the pro event.

Finishing in fifth place was Mining My Bidness, the top finishing Pro boat in the Rumble in the Jungle tournament. Their 36.78 pound king was caught slow trolling a ribbonfish on a downrigger about twenty feet down. Fishing with Chuck on his Mercury powered Donzi were teammates Patrick Bellamy, Kent Taylor and Todd Sanders.

The first place prize for the top 23 foot and under boat would go to Ted Hammonds’ the Brother-In-Law with Herb Walker and Tim Wayt on board.

Taking home the Top Lady Angler award was Shannon Gore on the Outcast II. Shannon took home $500 and some great jewelry. The Top Junior award was another check for $500 that was won by Houston Smith on Tam Global Fish Mounts. Herb Walker, fishing on the Brother’s In Law, also went home with an extra $500 in his pocket for being the tournaments Top Senior Angler.
