INVICTA LEADS SKA KINGMASTER 100 INVITATIONAL
Holley and Fuller Bag Tourney Leader for Day One
Sam White, Southern Kingfish Association
BILOXI, MS

It's been said before that fishing is mostly all luck, but when two of the upper Gulf's most experienced anglers team up then watch out, because great things are bound to happen.

That was the story of the SKA Kingmaster 100 Invitational today in Biloxi, as John Holley and Jamie Fuller came to the weigh in aboard the Mercury-powered Donzi 32, Invicta. Holley, from Destin, Florida and Fuller, from Pensacola, have proven themselves before in the often difficult fishing conditions in the upper Gulf of Mexico, and both have risen to the occasion to win major tournaments. Their whopping 57.1 pound kingfish from Day One has put them in the driver's seat for their first ever win while fishing together as a team, though. At stake for the 105 boat fleet is a top prize of $50,000 in cash, and the tournament will pay through 22 places as a result of the additional entries. Nearly half the fleet managed to weigh in king mackerel today, although most reported tough fishing conditions. Bob and Julie Clement, also from Pensacola and fishing aboard the 401 (k), held second place with a 50.2 pound king, followed by Fort Pierce Florida's Gatorbait team in third with 47.4 pounds.

But there's another saying, too: Tomorrow's another day. The weigh in will close Saturday at 5PM, at which time the 2001 Kingmaster 100 Champion will be named. Although the Invicta has a commanding lead, this is a big fish tournament so it's anyone's game to be won or lost. The public is invited to come watch the excitement at Point Cadet Marina, directly adjacent to the Isle of Capri in Biloxi, as over 100 of the country's top fishing teams venture out again for one more day in search of that elusive tournament winner.

INVICTA HOLDS ON FOR BIG WIN AT SKA KINGMASTER 100 INVITATIONAL

Holley Puts Donzi and Mercury in the Winner's Circle in Biloxi
Sam White, Southern Kingfish Association

John Holley and the Invicta team held on for the win today at the prestigious SKA Kingmaster 100 Invitational with their 57.1 pound kingfish, caught yesterday on the first day of the two day tournament. "We were really nervous all day today," Holley reported. "We had heard that there were several boats that had 50 plus pound kings aboard, and we thought we might be bumped into second or maybe even third, but it didn't happen so we're really happy with that." The team will accept their $50,000 first prize check tomorrow morning at the AM breakfast awards banquet at the Isle of Capri Casino and Resort in Biloxi. The team fishes from a Mercury-powered Donzi 32, home ported in Destin, Florida and named in honor of Holley's father's first fishing boat. "We used to be called AJ's Bimini after our major sponsor, but decided to change the boat name earlier this year, and so far it's been a lucky name," Holley said.

Bob and Julie Clement's fish from Day One also withstood a late onslaught today to remain in second place. The 401 (k) team nailed a 50.2 yesterday to cash in on the second place award, worth $28,000. The 401 (k) is based out of Pensacola, Florida. Randy Comans and the St. Petersburg-based team on the Voyager had the biggest fish of Day Two, weighing in a 47.9 pound king mackerel. They compete from a triple-Mercury powered ProLine 34, and wound up the tournament in third place, worth $19,000. Neil Nix and Danny Marsocci co-captained the Sake' to fourth with a 47.9 pound kingfish. Sandy Smith's Gatorbait rounded out the top five in the Kingmaster 100 Invitational with a 47.4 pound kingfish caught during Day One. The Gatorbait is home ported in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

The Isle of Capri Casino and Resort proved again to be a world class tournament facility, as there were two kings over fifty pounds landed during the weekend, as well as eleven more in the forty pound range.
