Support the RFA
Buy a Raffle Ticket

Posted by SKA Staff — Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Throughout the years, Angler magazine has published dozens of articles concerning legislation that threatens your right to fish. Recreational fishermen such as yourself are among those most concerned with the health and well being of myriad fish stocks. But there are those who have an agenda to put an end to all fishing. To counteract this agenda which employs flawed data and skewed reasoning, SKA is offering the opportunity to support the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) and a chance to win a great prize!

The mission of the RFA is to safeguard the rights of saltwater anglers, to protect marine, boat and tackle industry jobs, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of our nation’s fisheries. The RFA represents you inside the beltway and ensures that your voice is heard in concert with the thousands of other recreational fishermen. Closures for several species of bottom fish have already been imposed in the Gulf and more are on the table for the Atlantic. Protect your right to fish and buy a raffle ticket!

Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing will be held at the Captain's Meeting with dozens of great prizes including two round-trip ticket to anywhere AirTran flies! You must be present to win.

2009 Nationals Captain's Meeting Webcast Announced

Posted by SKA Staff — Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Let all of your friends and family know that the 2009 SKA National Championship Captain's Meeting and Annual Awards Ceremony will be webcast live beginning at 6:40 Thursday evening. You have fished hard all year and we want those who could not travel with you to share in your success. After recognizing valued sponsors and conducting the Captain's Meeting, Jack Holmes will emcee the annual awards.

Tune in early because Jack takes care of business and moves quickly to the recognition of winners in each division including the top five places in the Open Class, top three places in the Class of 23, and the top ladies, juniors and seniors. Awards are also given to the Overall Lady, Junior, and Senior. In addition to these awards, special categories include the Director's Award, Rookie of the Year and the Sportsmanship Award. Now, if you check out the points on the SKA web site, you can determine who will receive the awards by division. But the special categories are announced only at the Annual Awards Ceremony.

To view the webcast, have your friends and family go to www.FishSKA.com. During the National Championship, this address will take all visitors to the Nationals pages. (If they want to view the regular home page, click "Back to FishSKA.com" on the far right of the navigation bar.) When the webcast is active, visitors will be automatically directed to that page. Or, look for "LIVE!" in bright yellow in the navigation bar and click to go to the webcast page. Please note, if "LIVE!" is grayed out, there is no webcast currently broadcasting.

Many of you have watched the weigh-ins at select tournaments throughout the year. If so, we have not changed the way the webcast is set up and you should be ready to go. If not, please take an opportunity before the webcast begins to test your browser and computer. You will need either Windows Media Player on a Windows computer or Flip4Mac on a Mac to view the webcast. Links are provided below for your convenience. A test feed will be available from 6:15-6:30 without sound.

So tell everyone you know to watch for you at the SKA National Championship Captain's Meeting and Annual Awards Ceremony. Be sure they know all times are Central Standard Time and to adjust if they are watching from a different time zone.
