CONSERVATION THROUGH EDUCATION

The need to better understand our oceans and the species of fish we all enjoy fishing for is paramount. Managing our resources has never been more difficult especially when you consider that over 11 million enthusiasts now fish saltwater.

College of Marine Science

In 2004 the Southern Kingfish Association was approached by the University of South Florida's College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg, Florida, to institute an endowment fund to enhance marine science by a select group of graduate students. In 2005 the SKA presented the College with its first check for $20,000. It had agreed to an endowment fund of $100,000 over the next five years, $20,000 per year. This fund was produced thru membership fees by the members of the SKA plus dollars from Corporate Partners.

Carrie Wall used some of the money to do a research project on king mackerel.
Here is a synopsis of that research.

THE KINGFISH STUDY FROM OUTER SPACE!

KIDSFISH FLORIDA has been helping kids fish since 1998. You can help, too!  For every license plate sold, Fish Florida receives $22.00. These funds are used to buy fishing rods and reels for kids and provide grants to fishing and aquatic education programs throughout Florida.  Anglers and others have made 34,898 license plate purchases through the Fish Florida license plates program.  Out of Florida's 100 specialty license plates, we rank 30th in sales!  THANK YOU!

(You will need your current license plate number and date of birth.)
